Dr. Wael Mualla, President of the University of Damascus, and Andreas Reinicke, the German Ambassador to Syria, opened a new exhibition in the Faculty of Architecture on December 9th.  The exhibition featured works created in the workshop, entitled “Art Meets Architecture,” by nearly 60 third-year students at the College with the German artist Karsten Konrad of Bauhaus University in Weimar, Germany.

The products of the workshop were displayed in the lobby of the college, including a human figure made from wood and a group of decorative works made from cardboard, which were created by students under the supervision of the German Artist and Syrian teachers.

The workshop included design and implementation of architectural composition in an artistic form that suits the space.  The course also covered design and implementation of three-dimensional images and using them to give the architectural space an artistic character based on the contrast of shadow and light with the glass, which is employed to provide the transparency of the architectural space. This also shows the possibility of transitioning from a two-dimensional surface to three-dimensional decorative configurations, thereby artistically affecting the space.
