The fifth capacity-building training course for IT directors in public agencies started on January 9th. Conducted in cooperation with JICA, the course’s theme is “IT staff in Leadership Positions to support Syria’s E-government.”
DU president, Prof. Wael Mualla pointed out the around 100 staff members from various public agencies have been trained in the last four sessions. He added that qualifying human assets for national development is a core goal for DU, in addition to its other roles of providing the labor market with qualified graduates. Dr. Mualla also emphasized the desire of DU to expand cooperation with JICA in the field of IT.

Kaoru Iwasaki resident representative of JICA in Damascus expressed his agency’s readiness to provide further IT support to DU, and to share knowledge and transfer experience to university staff. Also speaking at the opening ceremony was Prof. Ammar Kheir Bek, the Dean of DU’s School of IT who stressed that the main goal of these courses is to build a national critical mass of qualified IT personnel. They were expected, he added, to provide all the needed IT support in their respective public agencies. The fifth session is the last in the framework of existing cooperation with JICA.
