Dr. Muhsen Bilal, Minister of Information, had an open discussion with students of DU’s School of Media and Communication. In his opening remarks Minister Bilal stressed that both private and public media outlets are committed to the framework of national constants and principles. “There are variations of opinions or interpretations with regards to the Occupied Syrian Golan Heights, or the full Israeli withdrawal to June 4th, 1967 line.” The Minister also added that the question of Palestine was both sacred and central to all Arabs everywhere.

The open discussion, entitled “SMC graduates and the Job Market” was held on December 8th in SMC. During the discussion Bilal asserted that Syrian media is widely respected and appreciated, and that media outlets function as national mirrors that reflect the diversity and unity of Syria. The Minister also emphasized the important role that the media can play in exposing ills in society. “The media has a great ability to influence the public and it has become such a necessity that it is often described as the fourth branch of any government,” Bilal added.
In his welcoming remarks, Dr. Yahya Al-Aridi, Dean of SMC said that the School is the natural incubator of future journalists and public figures, commending the linkages between academic training and the job market. “This new Academic Haven will have a presence on the media scene in Syria”

Attending the event were DU’s president, Prof. Wael Mualla, Editors of major private and public media agencies in Syria, and a number of SMC’s faculty and students.
